As part of Mayor Richard Daley’s efforts to make Chicago the greenest city in the nation, several noted architects are joining the movement of designing environmentally friendly housing projects aimed at improving the lives of the disadvantaged. GreenWorks Studio and Harley Ellis Devereaux, a partner company, were selected by Interfaith Housing Development Corp.-Chicago (IHDCC) to design Sankofa House, a 58-unit residential facility with supportive services on city-owned land. Thirty-nine units will be designated for young adults aging out of the foster care system, while 19 units will be for low-income kinship families.
